Console Chest Lenbrook
Before & After
Drag the slider to see the transformation
Common areas in residential communities see a lot of daily traffic. Furniture that sits in a hallway or lobby gets bumped by carts, grazed by bags, and slowly worn down by years of incidental contact. That’s exactly what happened to a console chest at Lenbrook in Atlanta — a piece that had accumulated scratches across the top surface, visible damage on the legs, and scuffs on the drawer faces. It still functioned fine, but it no longer looked the part.
The property team could have replaced it. But a quality console chest isn’t cheap, and when the bones of a piece are still solid, replacement is the expensive option — not the smart one.
The Work We Did
We handled this project on-site in July 2024, working through each damaged area of the console systematically.
The top surface had the most visible wear. Years of items being set down, slid across, and picked back up had left a network of scratches that dulled the original finish. We carefully color-matched the existing stain using Mohawk products, then built the finish back up layer by layer — filling, blending, and sealing until the surface looked uniform again.
The legs told a different story. These had taken harder impacts — likely from vacuum cleaners, shoe kicks, or furniture being shifted around the space. We addressed the dents and gouges individually, restoring the profile of the wood before matching the color and finish to blend each repair into the surrounding area.
The drawer faces had their own set of scratches. These are the kind of marks that catch the light at the wrong angle and make a piece look neglected, even if the damage is relatively shallow. We touched up each one, bringing the drawer fronts back in line with the rest of the console.
The Results
When we finished, the console chest looked like it belonged in the space again — not like a piece that had been beaten up by five-plus years of daily use. The top surface was smooth and consistent. The legs were clean. The drawers matched. The whole piece read as intentional and well-maintained, which is exactly the impression a property like Lenbrook wants to make.
No furniture removal. No lead time waiting on a replacement. No disruption to the residents or staff who use that space every day.
The Takeaway for Property Managers
Console tables, entry chests, and hallway furniture are some of the most overlooked pieces in a common area — until they start looking rough. Because they’re not the focal point of a room, damage accumulates quietly. By the time someone notices, the piece can look like it needs replacing.
But replacement isn’t always the right call. On-site touch-up restoration can save up to 60% compared to buying new, and it keeps your existing design scheme intact. No need to source a matching piece, wait on delivery, or coordinate removal of the old one.
If you’re managing a property and noticing that common area furniture is starting to show its age, that’s the right time to call — before the damage gets worse and the options get more expensive.
